Straight to the point!

I think the biggest dare I have taken so far is to get my hair straightened. You must be thinking that what’s the dare in getting your hair straightened? Well, it is indeed a dare if you have a dotting Mom like mine who is very particular about her daughter’s hair staying the way it is meant to be naturally. But then one fine day she opens the door to get the shock of her life- her curly haired daughter goes shopping and comes back empty handed and her hair straightened!! A drastic transformation! Her daughter no more looks like ‘her daughter’!! OMG!! SHE LOOKS SO SO STRANGE!! (Ugly in her words) A reason good enough for her to keep a straight face seeing my straight hair over the next few months!

Thank god it was a Saturday and the following day was a Sunday so I had some time to get out of the shock! I went in front of the mirror and checked out my now straight hair. Do I look really as bad as Mom says I do? Did I make a wrong choice by getting my hair straightened?? Yeah she is right I do look very different from my previous (and original) self!! Oh no, how would I go to office now? What if everyone’s reaction is the same as hers?? Damn!! I couldn’t sleep for the next few hours!! And yes not to mention the constant yelling (yes I do get yellings and scoldings even at this age! :P) I got to hear from the other room.

Monday arrived and since I couldn’t afford to lose my job over a silly hairy mistake I finally gathered some courage and went to work. I reached my office covering my head with a dupatta.  Scanning through everyone’s desk whether anybody noticed my ugliness or not. Thank god no one noticed. Yeah I am smart you see. Dupatta is the best invention for womankind! I sat on my chair and started working. To my surprise my very good colleague who sits next to me started screaming! “What happened??” Oh no!! My dupatta had slipped down my head and she noticed it!! “Hey!! You have got your hair straightened!!!”, she said and everyone came and gathered around me as if I am some creature kept in the museum! “Yeah, I did.” I replied in a sad tone. “Wow you look so so..”… “Different and strange and ugly????” I asked. “No way!!! You look glam!!! You look very beautiful!!”she responded. “Eh?? Really??” “Are you serious??” I was still not sure. “Yes dear, you should have done this much before. You look gorgeous”, another colleague replied. And that made my day and all the days that followed. I was often complimented for my long shiny straight hair that gave me a big relief from the guilt I had had inside me after seeing my mom’s reaction at first. As they say there is always something good hidden in the bad and yes it was indeed a good decision by me to get my hair straightened. For all the diva attention I received and all the likes, comments and compliments I received over my social networking profile and on social gatherings. Yes I am proud I did it!! Else I would have never been able to know that I can also look strangely beautiful or if I may say so, ‘straightly beautiful’!!

What my mom feels about it now? Well she still thinks curls look best on me but I know how to curl things back to normal. She is happy to see my new growths getting me back to my curly self but what she doesn’t know that I am just waiting for my next straight moment.
Shhhhit’s a secret!
